So instead of spending your valuable time at the front desk, you could be in the parks with your family while Melissa is on the phone dealing with the problem. Interested in a free quote, head over to www . travellingwithlissy.com and let Melissa help you start planning your dream vacation today. Again, that's www . travellingwithlissy.com Hello, everybody. Welcome to Disney life podcast. My name is Marc Valentine. I'm the host of the Disney life podcast. And we sincerely hope that you've all been living your best Disney lives this week. This has been a huge week for our brand new podcast, as we're now listed over on a variety of podcast directories. For the first time this week, we have been added to Apple Music to tunein with Alexa and to Google podcasts. And welcome to any new listeners that are logging in on those directories. And again, you can find Disney life podcast on Apple podcasts, Spotify, and of course, our host site buzzsprout. We had a really great push from our listeners this week over on Apple podcast. And thank you to everyone that took the time out to rate and to review the podcast. And in this episode today, don't forget that we have our huge giveaway from Thomas kinkade Studios, that for everyone this week that went out and gave us a rating and a review on Apple podcast as well as one of our subscribers, that you were entered this week into our contest to win a tangled, Thomas kinkade Gallery wrapped canvas. And Linda and I will be announcing that winner live here later today in the show. So last week, I had taken kind of a day away from things and given all of the news that had been going on with Disney in terms of the layoffs and it was a pretty down week in terms of just the the mood of the Disney community. So we kind of pushed this show back a week. I asked john Hinson if he would come on last week, john Hinson is an Orlando native, and I felt like he really would have a great pulse on what was going on. JOHN did a really great job short notice and we kind of just wanted to sit down and go over that. So Linda very graciously agreed last week to kind of put this show on pause for one week. So it's always been our mission to try to seek out every single restaurant and property and try things at least once. So this episode today was all about if you're if you're looking to find some new places, and you're looking to really diversify where you eat this was the episode that was dedicated to you. So last week I asked Linda if she would mind being put on hold. And I'd like to welcome her back to the show. Linda Welcome back. How you been?

Lynda Valentine:

Good thank you.

Marc Valentine:

Have you been living your your best Disney life

Lynda Valentine:

every day?

Marc Valentine:

Every every day, right? We try

Lynda Valentine:

every day

Marc Valentine:

you and the funny thing about Linda is, is she is she's my biggest fan. And also she's she's my most spot on critic. So she says I've been getting like a little a little long in the tooth of some of these podcasts. So whenever Linda is on you can. The other nice thing that you can you can count on on a Linda episode is that Linda is going to be concise and very clear with getting you the information that you want. And the information that you need in terms of let's let's get in and let's get out quick. So this week, Linda is all about you and your dining preferences. So the way I thought maybe we could set this up too, is instead of doing this place, you give us a recommendation for another one.

Lynda Valentine:

Okay.

Marc Valentine:

Okay. So, you know, here's, here's why we wanted to kind of do a little bit of a hidden gem series too for for people like us, and Linda can speak to this as well. We get very locked into our favorites. I think most people are like that.

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah, yeah.

Marc Valentine:

You have your favorites. They're your go to's. And then you go to the parks, you have like six or seven days. And what do you what do you do,

Lynda Valentine:

right?

Marc Valentine:

You wind up eating at the same place,

Lynda Valentine:

over and over again

Marc Valentine:

over and over again. You never really branch out I mean in like, we're guilty, we're guilty of that, too. I think it's kind of recently that we kind of change that phenomenon where we said, hey, let's, let's start to venture away. So this episode was kind of about that.

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah,

Marc Valentine:

being a little bit more adventurous as as a Disney diner, you know, trying to avoid some of the places that I don't want to call them the tourist traps. I mean, they're great, with good reason. They're amazing places. But I think that if you constantly fall into the pattern of I have to eat here, I have to eat here. Very seldom, if ever will you get to these other places?

Lynda Valentine:

Right?

Marc Valentine:

That's kind of that's the best thing about Disney, you can have a different vacation every single time.

Lynda Valentine:

Definitely.

Marc Valentine:

So one of the greatest things about Disney is the variety. So this is kind of giving people who are seasoned veterans or pros, people that have been so many times, here's some, here's some ideas to kind of freshen up the vacation for you a little bit. give you a chance to really experience something for the first time again, make you feel a new,

Lynda Valentine:

okay,

Marc Valentine:

right?

Lynda Valentine:

Yep. Perfect.

Marc Valentine:

The way that we're gonna kind of go is, you know, I'll say instead of choosing this restaurant, let's choose this one.

Lynda Valentine:

Okay. And then we'll talk about Oh,

Marc Valentine:

Yeah, so and then we'll talk about it. So let's start with like, number one. These are in no specific order. So these aren't like Linda's top five,

Lynda Valentine:

right,

Marc Valentine:

per se. We'll start with the Magic Kingdom instead of Be our guest, you recommend what...

Lynda Valentine:

I would say when that we recently found was Skipper canteen?

Marc Valentine:

Okay,

Lynda Valentine:

That was a surprise to me. I'm I did not want to eat there. I just I don't know why it just I you know, we're usually with our daughter and she like probably probably like most of the eight year olds is not the world's most adventurous eater. So when I thought of that place, I thought, Oh my gosh, it's gonna be crazy fare instead of you know, something that she could also eat but went there the first time we were we I know, were pleasantly surprised. Um, in the last time we'd gone it was excellent. I'd say it was probably one of my favorite meals that we had on property. We actually got to sit in that butterfly booth, which is pretty awesome.

Marc Valentine:

One of the things that I want to say is like if you're looking to kind of get away from theme park food, like the food there is definitely not bland.

Lynda Valentine:

Oh, no,

Marc Valentine:

it's not like it's not your run of the mill theme park food

Lynda Valentine:

No it's very good.

Marc Valentine:

It is a culinary delight. They have a lot of different spices, a lot of different flavors. not overpowering.

Lynda Valentine:

No, no, it was good. I really enjoyed it. And I don't like I'm not one that between the two of us. I'm definitely not the one that would try something different.

Marc Valentine:

Yeah,

Lynda Valentine:

I am that traditional. Okay, I like my Liberty tree. I like my you know,

Marc Valentine:

And those are Great!

Lynda Valentine:

Oh, they're amazing I still go there all the time. But this was out of my comfort zone at first and now I love it. And you know, we try to get there now. We'll try to

Marc Valentine:

Now it's become one of our favorites.

Lynda Valentine:

Yep.

Marc Valentine:

Yeah. I mean, it's, you know, the one thing that I can say for Skipper canteen, is if you're looking for like anti theme park food, that that's that's really the place to be the food is very adventurous in terms of the flavors. But it's not. It's not scary. You don't have to be worried about what what's going to come out what's going to be in front of me. The other great thing is, you and I are you know, we're carnivores. So we like we'll have steak everywhere. But if you're, you know, if you're someone who's looking for dietary options, if you want like a plant based option,

Lynda Valentine:

oh, yeah.

Marc Valentine:

The other great thing is they have a lot of great stuff on the menu for individuals that have you know, they have some dietary restrictions, and you still will get very adventurous and very flavorful meals, despite the fact that you know, you're going to make some substitutions or some changes. And then you mentioned the butterfly booth.

Lynda Valentine:

Yes, that's awesome.

Marc Valentine:

Soa pro tip, for the two of us, and we didn't even know that This is something that you should recommend, or something that you can request. So the last time that we went the butterfly booth, you have to ask for it. You might have to wait a little bit longer, but there's two rooms in the skipper canteen. The one is the main room, which they which they call the I'm trying to...

Lynda Valentine:

just the dining room or

Marc Valentine:

Yeah, but it's

Lynda Valentine:

The first room when you walk in

Marc Valentine:

The adventure. It's...

Lynda Valentine:

I know the secret library or the library.

Marc Valentine:

Well, it's the SE that that one I know it's this society of explorers and adventurers room that's the SEA room. That's where the butterfly booth is. It's gonna like come to me at some point, like THE MESS HALL. Thank you. It's the mess hall.

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah,

Marc Valentine:

it's very late at night, we're taping this episode very late at night here. Yeah, I'm kind of shot. So the mess hall is really cool. It's a little loud. But what I what we always try to get into is the SEA room. Yes. Which is like the secret library. There's like a bookcase that it looks like it's a secret hidden passage. And then in that room, there is a booth in that room which is called the butterfly booth and the butterfly collection belonged to Lillian Disney.

Lynda Valentine:

Yep.

Marc Valentine:

And it's incredible. You really should wait. So my advice would be when you are getting seated by the host or hostess, to ask for the butterfly booth.

Lynda Valentine:

Amazing.

Marc Valentine:

See if there's a long way because it's a really cool seat

Lynda Valentine:

semi circle

Marc Valentine:

Yeah, it's a semi circle booth. The butterflies are behind you... amazing. It's just a really nice area of the room itself but the the ambience is cool.

Lynda Valentine:

It's a great it's a great restaurant.

Marc Valentine:

Yeah waitstaff is funny, what I would recommend as far as the food there. So I've tried a few things if you are a safer person, so if you're looking at the menu and you're thinking to yourself, what do I get? They have something which is called tastes like chicken because it is and it's crisp. It's basically a crispy fried chicken filet and then the chicken fillet has like a citrus ginger...

Lynda Valentine:

Fried or grilled.

Marc Valentine:

No, it's fried.

Lynda Valentine:

Okay,

Marc Valentine:

and it's got like a um, a ginger scented rice that comes with it and a chili glaze but the chili glaze is in it's not overpowering you see chili glaze... one you had that once? The only the only meal that I think gives you the heebie jeebies there is the fish it's the whole fish it's just something you wouldn't Order

Lynda Valentine:

No, no,

Marc Valentine:

The food is the food is wonderful. You got the steak the last time we have to see the word Kungaloosh

Lynda Valentine:

Oh, so good.

Marc Valentine:

The Kungaloosh does not beat ooey gooey toffee cake from Liberty tree...

Lynda Valentine:

I don't think I don't compare them though. They're not... I wouldn't me, I would not compare them they're different very different desserts but what they each have their own amazingness to them and I don't think it's fair to put them up against each other.

Marc Valentine:

It's like a religious experience though that Kungaloosh

Lynda Valentine:

oh my goodness.

Marc Valentine:

So the...

Lynda Valentine:

It was fantastic.

Marc Valentine:

Yeah, so the Kungaloosh is... it really is that good? It really is that good. So the Kungaloosh is kind of the thing that, if you're going to go to Skipper canteen, you have to order the Kungaloosh. So, skip Be Our Guest would be our recommendation Be Our Guest is a wonderful dining experience. But instead of having to fight the throngs of people to get that reservation, trust us, go to Skipper canteen. Don't be disappointed when you can't get into Be Our Guest. And you're you're gonna love it. It's it is. It is very quickly become one of our hidden gems. And one of our favorites,

Lynda Valentine:

I would say go for that over Be Our Guest, now.

Marc Valentine:

So the other one is, instead of chef Mickey.

Lynda Valentine:

Um, I would say whispering Canyon cafe

Marc Valentine:

Over at the Wilderness Lodge.

Lynda Valentine:

Yes.

Marc Valentine:

Now this this one, we've done breakfast,

Lynda Valentine:

lunch,

Marc Valentine:

and we have done lunch. We did not do dinner.

Lynda Valentine:

But we did a lastish lunch. I think that's why we...

Marc Valentine:

we did a very late lunch the one time

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah,

Marc Valentine:

but you pick this one for one menu item in particular, the bison

Lynda Valentine:

burger. Yes. I was just curious what it was gonna taste like you know, I wasn't sure you didn't think I was gonna like it. Remember? You were like, Oh, I don't know, that's kind of wild. For you

Marc Valentine:

again, you're safer. You're safer on the side when you

Lynda Valentine:

100% but it was delicious. And I honestly, it was just it tastes like a really great burger. Like it was one of those like, comfort meal things. You know,

Marc Valentine:

it was so good that you, you kind of reached over to me and you're like, you need to take take some of this for yourself.

Lynda Valentine:

It's delicious.

Marc Valentine:

And I will say that.

Lynda Valentine:

I just like that. I like the whole. I mean, well, obviously, it's we're DVC members, and that's our home resort. We always, you know, we love to try the places inside of Wilderness Lodge. It's just great. I mean, the ambiance there, I love it. It's right there when you come in that people are just you know,

Marc Valentine:

yeah,

Lynda Valentine:

pre COVID it was so funny. You know, it was funny. They still try to do all the same kind of jokes.

Marc Valentine:

Yeah, I mean, the shenanigans are kind of muted right now.

Lynda Valentine:

But it's still...

Marc Valentine:

I mean, normally Yeah, normally and we mentioned this when we did our dining episode, we talked about the experiences that have very heavy cast interaction have all been toned down a lot.

Lynda Valentine:

I mean, I still we actually this last time and we went for that late lunch and we actually had to eat in artist point

Marc Valentine:

Yes,

Lynda Valentine:

they were they use the dining room for our sports was kind of neat that we got to eat there again. But have the wilderness or the I'm sorry, the...

Marc Valentine:

whispering Canyon

Lynda Valentine:

Whispering Canyon menu. It was it was really good. I mean, we liked it. Bella had something she liked every time we've gone there.

Marc Valentine:

Yeah, I mean, I would I would order that every single time. I'd say right now the bison burger at whispering Canyon is the best hamburger

Lynda Valentine:

Oh, easily

Marc Valentine:

hands down on property. So the the burger itself, it comes with like a siracha aoli and it's got white white cheddar cheese, thick cut bacon fried pickle that comes on it.

Lynda Valentine:

So good!

Marc Valentine:

And then with all of the a lot of the sandwiches, they come with those deep fried potato wedges instead of fries. So they're really hearty and they just complement the bison burger very well.

Lynda Valentine:

So tasty.

Marc Valentine:

Like this is all about. We love chef Mickey. We go to chef Miki all the time.

Lynda Valentine:

Absolutely.

Marc Valentine:

Chef Mickey is, especially with lowered capacity. Everyone is trying to get into chef Mickey. It's a very hard get. So we tell people you know, that's what this episode is about. It's about the hidden gems, especially if the capacity is lower on some of these other places. And you're booking this fall. Don't get your heart set on chef Mickey and think to yourself, hey, if I don't get into chef Mickey I'm kind of out of luck.

Lynda Valentine:

Oh No,

Marc Valentine:

...again, Hot Tip skip chef Mickey this this time around, go to whispering Canyon for dinner. They have them for lunch too. They have the skillets the skillets are wonderful. We've gotten the breakfast skillets before the shenanigans are still there, they're not as intense as they used to be. So the ketchup joke isn't there, but they have different ketchup jokes. But it's a really great... yeah, I mean it's it's a really great it's a really great option. Polynesian right now we can't do ohana, ohana is closed. It looks like the Polynesian is going to be renovated for a while but we don't care anyway because you would say hey, if we're going to the Polynesian.

Lynda Valentine:

Oh I know.

Marc Valentine:

Don't go to ohana your hidden gem is

Lynda Valentine:

Kona, Kona cafe for sure.

Marc Valentine:

And I don't know if this qualifies as much as a hidden gem.

Lynda Valentine:

I like it best for breakfast, not gonna lie

Marc Valentine:

Some of the menu items that they have over in Ohana

Lynda Valentine:

Ohana flavor but in a different kind of a atmosphere. I like breakfast there macadamia pancakes are unbelievable.

Marc Valentine:

So and I feel like this one should come with a bit of...

Lynda Valentine:

Pineapple butter...

Marc Valentine:

Yes. This one should come with a bit of an Asterix because at least my opinion if you're given a choice between Kona and ohana for dinner, it's still ohana. It's always ohana if it's dinner, but breakfast

Lynda Valentine:

no definitely

Marc Valentine:

I like Lilo and Stitch as characters. But for you know, in my opinion, the breakfast at Kona is just so much better. I mean everybody knows, everybody knows the Tonga toast. The Tonga toast is the banana stuff french toast it's rolled in the cinnamon sugar. It served with the compote, the strawberry on top it is... it's to die for but you get the like you said you get the macadamia nut pancakes and the French press coffee.

Lynda Valentine:

Of course

Marc Valentine:

...and I could sit there for hours and it's it's it's a very relaxed breakfast

Lynda Valentine:

I like it's you can right by the monorail so you're looking at the monorail you can see down in the lobby. I just it's nice. I like it that locations awesome.

Marc Valentine:

We just like to relax there too. You know that that's like our when we have a day that we ran pretty hard. Then we go to Kona and we just kind of unwind a little bit that day and we take our time for breakfast but you know don't again, you're not going to get ohana for a while it looks... but don't fret. I would say go Kona is just as good. And it's you see repeatedly and people mentioned this on social media. That's why this one's not as much of a hidden gem as some of the others. But you can see that you know Kona is very clearly it is very much off the beaten path when you compare it with like a place like

Lynda Valentine:

yeah.

Marc Valentine:

ohana or even like a park fair

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah,

Marc Valentine:

...speaking of Park Fare, so number four instead of Park Fare, skip Park Fare. It's not open right now anyway, but even when it comes back, you would say hey, skip it.

Lynda Valentine:

If you can't get Park Fare to a good choice is Grand Floridian cafe ...delicious.

Marc Valentine:

So hands down

Lynda Valentine:

breakfast, lunch, dinner. We've been there for everything now.

Marc Valentine:

It's my favorite breakfast.

Lynda Valentine:

Absolutely

Marc Valentine:

on property.

Lynda Valentine:

It's delicious. Yes.

Marc Valentine:

Topolino's would be my favorite.

Lynda Valentine:

If the full menu came back

Marc Valentine:

if the full menu comes back. We mentioned we mentioned this in our life after the Disney dining plan in my very first episode. Topolino's terrace has the best breakfast on property but they've taken the hash out the menu and they've taken the steak with the polenta out of the menu, which are the two greatest menu items in the history of breakfast. The Calzone over at the boardwalk is pretty good too at Trattoria al forno. That's a pretty cool breakfast menu item. But if I had to pick a place to go to breakfast Grand Floridian cafe, and again for you it's the star of the show is always pancakes.

Lynda Valentine:

It is but I also like there we did there, the grand breakfast where they call, with the eggs. You had the... Oh, that was delicious, too. I mean, you can't go wrong with their breakfast, or lunch or dinner but just now talking about breakfast. It's fantastic.

Marc Valentine:

We would always go to park fair for dinner.

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah,

Marc Valentine:

for obvious reasons. The characters are there. Our daughter loves it. It's a great buffet. Again. Yeah, again, this

Lynda Valentine:

It's great. isn't an indictment on (Grand) Park fare. It's great.

Marc Valentine:

I mean, there's really great dining options at Grand Floridian is one of our favorite places because we love Narcoosies, we love Park fare, We love Grand Floridian cafe, we're going to try Citricos but again, it wasn't open because the NBA had a lot of different things. A lot of stuff was closed down. And it's always been our mission we want to try everywhere. So we might come back and do a review of Citricos after we go there but the dinner the two of us this last time

Lynda Valentine:

Oh the chicken...

Marc Valentine:

We got again, Disney's got some really great fried chicken ....You know?

Lynda Valentine:

No, I never understand people say oh, Disney's food is terrible. It's really nice to know where to...

Marc Valentine:

It's not...

Lynda Valentine:

You can get traditional normal fair food, like, or whatever you want to call it. You can get some really excellent meals. This is one that dinner was...

Marc Valentine:

I've never engaged people that say that in conversation for two reasons is I try not to get overly negative when I'm talking about Disney and I don't want to get pulled down but to I just feel like people who say that the food at Disney is not of high quality or not eating the right stuff.

Lynda Valentine:

Of course,

Marc Valentine:

you know there there are some food options at Disney that I would say I'll skip it. You know like I'm not into some places, just have a very pedestrian burger and hotdogs and chicken fingers.

Lynda Valentine:

You need to have that sometimes for some

Marc Valentine:

well, but those are good options for the kids. But I mean, if you're an adult and you're eating that you're like, oh, the food's not great. Listen, you're not ordering the right stuff.

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah,

Marc Valentine:

You really have to you branch out and go and seek some of these places. But there's also some people that they base that decision purely off of the quick service options. They don't, they don't really venture into the table service arena. And they you know, they kind of have that but the chicken

Lynda Valentine:

Oh, at the Grand Floridian

Marc Valentine:

At the Grand Floridian Cafe is unbelievable.

Lynda Valentine:

It really is. It's in a gorgeous part of the hotel. I mean, the whole hotel is gorgeous, but that is an absolutely beautiful location. I love it there and it's just the ambience there too. It's awesome. The chandelier, the little tables. You do, you feel like a little little cafe somewhere?

Marc Valentine:

Yeah,

Lynda Valentine:

Very nice. And the food is to die for. Delicious.

Marc Valentine:

So our last hidden gem in the Epcot world showcase, which is our favorite place to eat. I am going to say one thing about this restaurant though, which is also why I think it is a hidden gem is because of its location. But you would say skip via Napoli it has a better counterpart in the Italian pavilion ,don't do via Napoli. Do tutto Italia.

Lynda Valentine:

Oh, for sure. Absolutely. Tutto is my favorite. It is... it feels like it's out of way it gets, especially, when you come from the other side of the park. But coming back from boardwalk area, it's not so bad. You know, it's closer that way But...

Marc Valentine:

I think, so we always book a late it is, we always but that's on us. That's on. That's not on the restaurant. We always book a late dinner at tutto Italia after having done the parks for a full day already.

Lynda Valentine:

from like seven in the morning.

Marc Valentine:

Yeah. And so usually we'll we'll rope drop. Mm hmm. So we'll rope drop a park. And this is when Park hopping is in, but even now. So we'll rope drop something, go straight through till One, two, sometimes three, go back, swim, be thoroughly exhausted. And then look at the clock and say, Oh, we have a reservation at tutto Italia. And then the prospect of walking all the way to the back of the world showcase to that part of where the Italian pavilion is located. I always tell you, man, the next time that I booked Tutto Italian Yeah, we're not booking Tutto Italia at 630 at night, because I never want to walk to it. And then after we eat there, what do I say?

Lynda Valentine:

Oh, it's fine. We'll go It's okay. We'll do it again. Next. It is it's delicious. I mean, the it's it isn't like Olive Garden, which I also like, yeah, it isn't like it's just it's so good. And it's everything is hot and fresh and delicious. And the wait staff there is awesome. I love, we love it. It is it really is a great...

Marc Valentine:

Well, we so...

Lynda Valentine:

I would pick that Probab.... I would almost say

Marc Valentine:

it's the best. Yeah, it's the best Italian restaurant on on the property though. I would say

Lynda Valentine:

I do

Marc Valentine:

You know my opinion.

Lynda Valentine:

I mean, there's tons of stuff in Epcot that we love to wear, we love to eat, but that to me, I love it.

Marc Valentine:

So everyone and everyone has their favorites too. Like I've talked to people that like Mama Melrose is their favorite and we talked about this that that to us Mama Melrose is kind of akin to more of an olive garden, but even I would I'd rather...

Lynda Valentine:

It's a great place like it looks adorable, in an awesome little like alcove but ya know,

Marc Valentine:

So we're also kind of spoiled living so close to New York City. Yes, that this is like the, cultural hearth of Italian American food.

Lynda Valentine:

Right. Oh, yeah.

Marc Valentine:

You know, it's a very stereotypical, kind of, and it's a generalization about the this area the Italian influence on the new york, new jersey area. And it's true. That's a true it is a truism that there's a lot of great Italian options in this area. So we're very spoiled. So when we travel to Disney, the one thing that I will, I would even say about tutto Italia versus even the great Italian American cuisine that we get up here is tutto Italia is the most authentic Italian food that I think we have gotten outside of Italy. Oh, you and I have been to Italy three times. We used to travel.

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah,

Marc Valentine:

pretty pretty heavily before Isabella was born.

Lynda Valentine:

Yes.

Marc Valentine:

And the way that they prepare the food. It's so good. But the craziest thing is it's of the three places that you know, or four. So if you're looking at like Via Napoli, Trattoria Mama Melrose or tutto Italia, which is the one that we love

Lynda Valentine:

every time Tutto Italia.

Marc Valentine:

It's simple. It's not as spiced and you know, they're the flavors are very rich, but they don't

Lynda Valentine:

Very orangic tasting... .

Marc Valentine:

It is. It's a very simple preparation of the Italian food, but in that simplicity, that's how it's effective.

Lynda Valentine:

portions are enormous.

Marc Valentine:

The portions are huge.

Lynda Valentine:

You can totally split if you had to, so you could save room for the delicious gelato.

Marc Valentine:

Well, that's the hardest. That's the hardest part is when you walk out is trying to not order the great desserts there.

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah. Oh, because you can walk

Marc Valentine:

cuz you have the gelateria that's right outside,

Lynda Valentine:

but it's still it's good. So the food was fantastic I would pick that

Marc Valentine:

of the five that we've done of the hidden gems of tutto Italia, of Kona, grand Floridian cafe, whispering Canyon, or Skipper canteen which one would you say of the five is your must do of the hidden gems

Lynda Valentine:

I'm gonna go with, I think, Skipper canteen

Marc Valentine:

I would too.

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah

Marc Valentine:

you know and that the funniest thing about Skipper canteen is we actively avoided Skipper canteen for...

Lynda Valentine:

it just seems like when you just... immediately like oh, it's gonna be strange like weird

Marc Valentine:

because it's adventurous ,yeah but that's

Lynda Valentine:

because the way they say the adventures cuisine Yes, you think it's gonna be you know there's not gonna be anything for Bella there's like it's gonna be spicy or it's gonna be weird. I don't know to strange flavors, but it really I mean, now we have the chicken

Marc Valentine:

one of our favorites.

Lynda Valentine:

You've had the fish but not the whole. No, you did you have the whole fish?

Marc Valentine:

I never had the whole fish

Lynda Valentine:

Catch of the day or whatever. They...

Marc Valentine:

No, I had the... it was prepared with like the

Lynda Valentine:

That was good. That was delicious. the coconut

Marc Valentine:

Yeah. And it was it was like a seafood platter. So it had...

Lynda Valentine:

I got the gumbo coconut soup?

Marc Valentine:

You did get the...

Lynda Valentine:

It was fantastic.

Marc Valentine:

So I had a salad. I had this this salad last time, which was prepared with peppers.

Lynda Valentine:

Oh, yeah.

Marc Valentine:

And the waiter It was so funny because the waiter said to me like, do

Lynda Valentine:

He told a really good backstory.

Marc Valentine:

Yeah. Do you enjoy the you know, a little he and you know, he kind of prepared me for this and said, Hey, listen, the salad has a lot of kick. But again, that's the cool thing about the restaurant is it offers people who have a very mild to like, plan. Yeah, people whose palates are like, Hey, I'm not adventurous. I just want your I want very predictable and safe flavors.

Lynda Valentine:

Right?

Marc Valentine:

There's stuff that's there for you. But if you have a family member, if your spouse

Lynda Valentine:

to try Yeah,

Marc Valentine:

who wants to try stuff and really kick a kick it up a few notches. That's why it's the perfect place. And the kids and kids options there too are great. I mean, our daughter loves jasmine rice. Like whenever we can go somewhere in order jasmine rice, plain white jasmine rice for our daughter. Done deal. And that's the other thing is you know, they'll just bring out a bowl that Nice Jasmine rice.

Lynda Valentine:

Disney in general for if you ask me about food for kids is the most amazing place ever. I can ask for a hotdog at most places. And they're like, okay, we can do that.

Marc Valentine:

Yeah,

Lynda Valentine:

they're just amazing. But I think that would be my hidden gem. Especially sold me I think last time syncing and that butterfly booth, which was gorgeous. And that story behind it was awesome. The cast members are always fantastic. And they're just fun to be around. Yeah,

Marc Valentine:

I feel like the butterfly booth. Not that you didn't love it before the butterfly booth. Like that sealed it.

Lynda Valentine:

It did. I mean I'll sit wherever. But we've sat in all the areas but I do it was just neat and she loved it. Bella loved it. We loved it. It was just, it gave you something else to look at while you're there.

Marc Valentine:

Yeah,

Lynda Valentine:

I really... beautiful.

Marc Valentine:

So those are those are our five hidden gems. Again, all of the places that we mentioned even though you know we we still try to go to all of those places that we said instead of this one go to this one. We still go to all of those. but the you know, this is just Hey, listen

Lynda Valentine:

Oh yeah, if you were making reservations right now, there is limited capacity. Don't be brokenhearted if you can't get... Yeah, we love Liberty tree Tavern we try to eat there at least once if not twice, and we'd love it but if we can't get it now, again, we have other options like we've kind of branched out enough and gotten out of that that routine to have some alternate places so it again to review you know, we have some great options for you. You know, Skipper canteen, whispering Canyon cafe, Grand Floridian cafe, Kona over at the Polynesian and then tutto Italia as our like go to Italian food option. And then I would dare to say like we don't really have honorable mentions here. But if if we were like throwing out some honorable mentions, for me quick service wise in magic kingdom would be Peco bills. It's not these that's not really a hidden gem. No, but it's just a good option that we never had tried it was one place. All right, let's try

Marc Valentine:

it's a great option that it's you know, I want to get out of the burgers and fries kind of rut. You know, another another hidden gem for me would have been but again, this is because it's really new. Is the docking bay dining over in galaxy's edge with like the really creative names and the creative dishes. You got the chicken?

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah, that's very good.

Marc Valentine:

And they have a blueberry muffin, which had a little spice to it. Which you bit into it. You're like, wait a minute, there's a kick to this blueberry muffin.

Lynda Valentine:

It's good. I just wasn't expecting

Marc Valentine:

Yeah, it was really awesome. Like you take a bite of it and it tastes like a traditional blueberry muffin. And then like on the tail end you get hit with like this little whap of heat

Lynda Valentine:

is good.

Marc Valentine:

And it's really cool and it's and it's unexpected.

Lynda Valentine:

That place I mean it just looks amazing.

Marc Valentine:

And I got the short rib, the beef short ribs which were really delicious thing and you had that you had again, Disney goes, can't go wrong with fried chicken. They always do the fried chicken there. So those that would be my honorable mention is the docking bay Dining. And we always like the wave to like I was gonna say that was mine. I would give a shout out to the wave

Lynda Valentine:

You stole that, yes, again their breakfast was delicious that french toast donut thing. Oh my gosh...

Marc Valentine:

We've had dinner there as well.

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah. The steak was amazing.

Marc Valentine:

Love the dinner.

Lynda Valentine:

Yeah.

Marc Valentine:

All right. So this is the moment you've all been waiting for, drumroll please. So again. So we went to Costco, and we wound up interacting with the the roadshow attendant there that was, you know, working with Thomas Kinkaid Studios. We wound up talking to her about the show. And I was talking about you the listeners and how amazing you are and about the philosophy of the show what Disney life is all about. And then I wound up buying, like five of these canvases. And the canvases, they're awesome. So the first plug I would say is go to Thomas Kinkaid Studios. And check out the Costco roadshow. If you're a Costco member, and there is a roadshow that's coming close to your town, go check it out. Because normally these things retail for in excess of $80, shopdisney and direct, and Costco had them on sale. And you were saving, $25 off of retail. And they're absolutely gorgeous. They're a 14 by 14 stretch canvas. So I was talking to Susan, and she told me to reach out to someone at the studio. And then the studio made a really generous offer to our listeners and said, Hey, listen, if you want to have a giveaway, you can have a giveaway. So all week, our listeners have been really amazing. Thank you to all of you that took five and 10 minutes to go and, you listen, But to hit subscribe to the podcast to give us a rating and to offer up a short review. You know, with the whole idea of getting us a lot more visible on the apple podcast directory. The more reviews that you have the more interaction with the show itself, the more that Apple can see that people are downloading, rating, you're reviewing that when you do a search and you just type in Disney then the whole point is to get our show to start getting to the top of building up to that search. So we had this wonderful contest all week. We wound up doing the drawing earlier today. And we said we were going to tape it but you know, in a very clever marketing scheme, we kind of cut it off and we said wait for the show. So here's the moment we are very proud to say that the winner of our first Disney life podcast giveaway is Shawna Van Dine. Shawna is a member of the Disney life podcast community over on Facebook.

Lynda Valentine:

Awesome.

Marc Valentine:

Yeah, congratulations to Shauna. Yay!!!. Shauna is like just she's a great contributor. She comments on the site all the time. She's really fun to have on the on the site. And she interacts with us all the time. And we pulled her name out of the hat today, actually, Isabella was the one that pulled it out of the hat. And so Shawna, I will connect with you. And I will get your address and send that over to Thomas Kinkaid Studios, and then they're going to mail that out to you direct. And they're going to mail you, this beautiful Tangled. painting. Yeah, we have it, we have a bunch of them. And you'll you'll love it as much as we do. So congratulations. Thank you so much. And again, you know, if you have not gone and had a chance to do that, please again, head to head to Apple podcasts. And if you could leave us a rating and review and don't forget to subscribe to the show. And then every week when we release a new episode on Friday, it'll just update on the podcast directory for you. And then when you open up Apple podcasts, the show will be right there loaded for you. You don't have to search for it again. It'll be preloaded for you. But thank you so much. We've been having just a wonderful time with the podcast. Thank you so much. We're gonna play around with format a little bit and try to shorten the shows for you. I really appreciate for those of you who've been hanging out with us in excess of an hour, we also have a pretty cool poll that's going on Dwayne Wiley started another epic poll for us on Pixar films. What is your top five Pixar films? I have been watching the votes come in. And I thought thrill rides was intense. Yeah, people love their thrill rides. But people who don't go to the parks a lot are very passionate about Pixar. You know, I can't wait. So thank you so much for living your best Disney life with us here this week and hanging out with us. Have a wonderful week. A wonderful weekend and I will see you all next week.
